Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are dissolvable suture material that are used to stimulate the natural production of collagen. There are two types of PDO threads used at our office: smooth and lifting.
Smooth threads are small lengths of PDO suture that are placed within the dermis to stimulate collagen. They can be used to help smooth and tighten the complexion. They can also be used as a “solid filler” to help with fine lines and the borders of the lips. Collagen production can last 18-24 months, but the recommended timeline for follow up treatment varies based on the location they are placed.
Lifting threads are longer lengths of PDO suture that are placed under the skin to help lift loose skin up to give a more youthful appearance to the face. Their lift has been touted as a “nonsurgical facelift.” Patients can see improvement for up to 12-15 months.
